For the past nine years, balletLORENT has been a proud creative partner of Project A, an initiative by Newcastle Theatre Royal dedicated to providing high-quality actor training for young people in the North East of England. Now in its 11th year, Project A has established itself as a transformative program, with over 90% of graduates securing professional industry work, gaining agent representation, or progressing to drama school within six months of completing their training.
Earlier this month, balletLORENT’s Creative Partner, Debbi Purtill, led an inspiring week-long movement intensive for a group of dedicated Project A students. Using repertoire from balletLORENT’s productions Snow White and The Becoming, the students explored emotional themes and creative tasks, helping them develop both their physical and expressive performance skills.
Liv Lorent, Artistic Director of balletLORENT, reflected on the long-standing partnership, stating: “Our relationship with Project A has continued to be creatively fruitful, and we are continually impressed by the commitment and inventiveness of the actors. We witness their physical charisma and confidence grow through the residency and believe that this supports their individual development as performers for life.”
Debbi Purtill shared: “It’s always inspiring to see the students grow in confidence and embrace movement as part of their storytelling.”
balletLORENT remains committed to supporting Project A’s mission, helping young actors develop confidence and movement skills that will serve them throughout their careers. We look forward to continuing this dynamic and rewarding partnership in the years to come.
