Yesterday, we hosted a Creative Studio open day at the John Marley Centre in Scotswood, welcoming over 20 young people for a day full of creative exploration in partnership with the Excelsior Academy. They had the chance to try out performing arts, dance, filmmaking, music, costume making, and much more. The atmosphere was vibrant and full of energy, and by the end of the day, some impressive projects were shared.
“Thank you all for such a fantastic day! Everyone had a great time, and I think we can all agree they were pretty worn out by the end of it.” Teacher, Excelsior Academy
Creative Studio is a free group for young people aged 13-19 living in the west end of Newcastle who are interested in creative activities, including theatre, art, dance, film, photography, music, design, and technical production. It’s a place to create their own work or collaborate with others who share similar interests.
The group has access to creative studios, equipment, and mentoring from theatre, art, music, and film professionals. They can develop projects in music, dance, theatre, film, photography, and design, while also organizing events such as exhibitions, gigs, screenings, and showcases. Additionally, they receive training in skills like editing, choreography, photography, composition, and stage design, and can share their work online through personal or balletLORENT platforms.
"Creative Studio gives young people the chance to explore, collaborate, and express their creativity without limitations—no special skills needed, just curiosity and a willingness to try new ideas." – James MacGillivray, Education & Projects Manager.
