We are seeking a Production Manager to manage the smooth and efficient day to day running of the company’s base at John Marley Centre, Newcastle and to undertake all technical duties alongside productions at home and on tour.
We are a small organisation with a hands-on approach to our work. As the only Production Manager in the company, you’ll be delivering at a strategic and practical level. You will need to be flexible in your approach to cover what needs to be done at our venue, John Marley Centre, in rehearsal and on tour. The nature of our programme means that the mix will vary depending upon where we are in the programme cycle.
The role reports to the Executive Director and will collaborate closely with the Artistic Director.
Role & Responsibilities:
Positive, welcoming and can- do attitude, which is supportive of a diverse company of artists.
Accountable for all Health & Safety compliance for performances within the building and across all tours, including risk assessment, PAT and scheduling all regular inspections and statutory testing
Oversee all logistical elements of the company tours both locally and Nationally/Internationally
Advise and assist in recruitment of all technical staff for touring and any other production events. This includes hiring freelance crew when required.
Manage members of the technical team on their individual roles and responsibilities
Liaise with Head of Technical at each theatre/venue we visit, agreeing production schedules and overseeing LX plans and required equipment etc.
Coordination of transportation of set and props.
Organising and packing of truck
Supervise the get-in, get-out, tech and running of each show at each venue.
Provide a show report for each show and circulate to production team including the Artistic Director and collaborators.
Carry out risk assessments for all performances and events and ensure the health and safety of audience, dancers, young casts and production teams.
Work closely with the Artistic Director & creative associates to ensure rehearsal spaces are technically set up and ready for the creation of work
Support the rehearsal process to ensure maintenance of set and props is upheld (and on tour/location) and gain an understanding of the show and scene changes.
Source, make, maintain, repair & recycle props, as required
Work closely with the freelance Stage Manager in making sure all of balletLORENT’s equipment and props are collected from each venue.
Coordinate production meetings with collaborators and technical team when required.
Work closely with the General Manager and Education and Projects Manager to ensure the studio spaces are fit for purpose for workshops, events and external hires.
Work closely with the General Manager to ensure the smooth operation of the building and to ensure its compliance, including the creation and management of a building maintenance plan
Be responsible for all on- and off-site storage
Work closely with the Executive Director on all production budgets
Work with the General Manager in overseeing all external contractors and maintenance companies
Contribute towards the company’s Diversity and Inclusion policy and plans to ensure the company has relevant and demonstrable impacts throughout the community, particularly with those from under-represented groups
Ensure balletLORENT is meeting targets/commitments set out in the company's Environmental Policy and Action Plan when considering set and prop purchases, transportation, waste/recycling, and other areas within the job description.
Act as a key holder
Act as one of the company emergency marshalls
Ensure the building always remains tidy and clean
Act as an Advocate for the company at all times
Skills and Experience:
Relevant performing arts and venue experience at a management level
An understanding of dancers needs in rehearsal and on tour to ensure their safety and personal wellbeing
Overseeing the production and touring of shows nationally, including all aspects of logistics and compliance
Overseeing maintenance and testing programmes
Working with Designers and Choreographers and understanding the artistic process
Extensive knowledge of most technical procedures and systems including theatrical lighting, sound, AV and Rigging
Excellent understanding of relevant H&S legislation and technical standards and across buildings and productions
Experience carrying out and implementing risk assessments and a good knowledge of the practical application of H&S to a technical department
Ability to anticipate and resolve problems
Proven experience of managing a team and people management skills.
Ability to develop, manage and apply new systems and procedures
Good knowledge of IT systems, including word, excel, Microsoft 365
