balletLORENT is proud to be one of 990 organisations across England with National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) status. This recognition means Arts Council England supports the company over three years to deliver a wide range of arts and culture programmes as part of their Let’s Create strategy and delivery plan.
In December 2024, balletLORENT collaborated with 140 Year 6 children from three primary schools in Darlington as part of the In2 Transition Project, led by Darlington Hippodrome and supported by Darlington Borough Council. This initiative was designed to enhance well-being and foster personal development during the critical transition from primary to secondary education. By focusing on children from some of the most economically disadvantaged areas in the borough, the project aimed to provide a creative and transformative experience at a pivotal stage in their lives.

Research over the last decade has consistently highlighted the significant benefits of engaging with arts and sports for mental health and overall well-being. Reports such as the Arts and Culture in Health and Wellbeing and in the Criminal Justice System by Arts Council England emphasise how creativity and physical activity can address mental health challenges and promote healthier communities. The In2 Transition Project reflects this evidence-based approach, using the proven impact of arts engagement to support young people in making a confident and successful transition to secondary school — a key focus area for Darlington.
Throughout the project, the children participated in four professionally led dance theatre workshops. These sessions encouraged them to build friendships, express themselves creatively, and develop resilience. The response from the children was overwhelmingly positive, with feedback highlighting how enjoyable and impactful the workshops were.
As the culmination of their creative journey, all 140 children will attend a live performance of balletLORENT’s Snow White production at Darlington Hippodrome in May 2025. Experiencing the magic of live theatre will not only deepen their appreciation for the arts but also provide an unforgettable memory to inspire their future creative pursuits.
This project is a testament to the transformative power of the arts, both in supporting young people during times of change and in fostering community well-being. balletLORENT is proud to have been part of this meaningful initiative, helping to create brighter futures through creativity and connection.
